CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track and field team hosts its final home meet of the 2011 outdoor season with the All-Ohio Championships Friday and Saturday at Gettler Stadium.
Cincinnati is looking to bounce back from last week's Miami (Ohio) Invitational where the UC women finished in second place overall and the men placed fifth, both falling to host Miami University.
The All-Ohio kicks off at 2 p.m. Friday, beginning with the men's decathlon and the women's discus throw. Freshmen Nick Furney (West Harrison, Ind.) and Kyle Kubera (Broadview Heights, Ohio/St. Ignatius) are scheduled to compete in the men's decathlon, while Mary Bridges (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) will throw for UC in the women's discus event. The first day of the All-Ohio will conclude at 6:45 p.m. with the men's 10K, where freshman Kevin Fink (Tipp City, Ohio), Eric Hauser (Mason, Ohio) and senior Tommy Morgan (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) are entered.
Competition will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday with Day 2 of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon, where freshmen CharAnna Dixon (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) and Kaitlyn Good (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia) are slated to compete.
In recognition of their final home meet, senior Bearcats will be honored at 12:30 p.m. with a farewell ceremony.
Saturday will wrap up with the women's 4x400 relay at 5:05 p.m., featuring Sophomore Shanay Portis (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield), senior Ashley Arnold (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), junior Kathy Klump (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) and junior Aricka Rhodes (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington). The men's 4x400 at 5:15 p.m. will be the final event of the All-Ohio. Cincinnati will run freshman Alex Howell (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), senior Chase Van Cura (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario), freshman Darnell Gilbert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and sophomore Maurice Norman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods).
The competition will be deep for the Bearcats, as a combined 29 schools from Division I, Division II and NAIA will be represented at the All-Ohio at Gettler this weekend.
The Division I schools include: Akron, Bowling Green, Dayton, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Ohio State, Toledo, Wright State, Xavier and Youngstown State. Seven schools will hale from Division II: Ashland, Central State, Findlay, Lake Erie, Ohio Dominican, Tiffin and Urbana. The NAIA will be represented by Cedarville, Malone, Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Myers, Notre Dame, Rio Grande, Shawnee State, Ursuline, Walsh and Wilberforce.
Team scoring will be separated into three sectors: overall, Division I, and a combined Division II/NAIA division. The top eight places will score team points, with first place receiving 10, second place obtaining eight and third place earning six. A fourth-place finish will score five points, with each subsequent place receive one less point.
