VILLANOVA, Pa. - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the first day of competition on Friday (May 6) at the 2011 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships at the Jumbo Elliott Track.
The Bearcat men are yet to score with only the hammer throw completed. Cincinnati has a pair of decathletes competing in freshmen Kyle Kubera and Nick Furney.
On the women's side, Frida Akerstrom set a UC freshman record with a hammer throw of 173' 8" to finish fifth. Those four points are good for a fifth-place position for the Bearcats after Day One.
Notre Dame leads the men's standings with 18 points, while Louisville is currently holding the lead with 13 points for the women.
Day Two gets underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon. Watch live on BIGEAST.tv here.
