VILLANOVA, Pa. - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams finished sixth at the 2011 BIG EAST Championships on Sunday (May 8) at the Jumbo Elliott Track.

The Bearcats claimed three BIG EAST titles with the men's team being led by BIG EAST champion Terence Somerville, who captured the 110 meter hurdles with a stadium-record mark of 13.44. His mark is just .02 behind Olympic silver medalist David Payne's school record of 13.42. For his efforts, Somerville earned Most Outstanding Track Performer accolades. Eric Finan also captured a league crown with a 14:11.43 5000 meters.

Other men's scorers included Josh Dangel (3rd) and Tommy Marks (4th) in the pole vault, who cleared 16' 2-3/4" and 15' 9", respectively. The 4x100 meter relay team posted a third-place finish with a time of 41.30. Troy Cooper (6th) and Jake Haseman (7th) scored in the discus with heaves of 161' 1" and 160' 10", respectively.

The women's squad got their lone championship from the 4x400 relay team, which set a school record with a 3:38.43 mark. The 4x100 relay team posted a 45.12, good for second place.

Natasha Burse finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 meter dash (school-record 11.53) and the 200 meters (23.59). Aricka Rhodes placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 53.82 and Paris Campbell (3rd) and Hauna Dawkins (7th) each scored in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing in 13.75 and 14.31, respectively.

In the field, Mary Bridges finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 150' 8".

Connecticut won the men's championship, while Louisville was crowned women's champion.

The Bearcats will take part in the Cardinal Twilight next weekend in Louisville, Ky., before qualifiers will head to Bloomington, Ind. for NCAA Regional competition.
