CEDARVILLE, Ohio - University of Cincinnati senior Eric Finan (New Richmond, Ohio/New Richmond) won the individual race and helped lead the Bearcats to a men's team title at 57th All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship at Cedarville University's Elvin R. King Cross Country Course on Friday.
UC scored 64 points to take the top spot, followed by Kent State who was second with 72 points. Rounding out the top five was Akron (94), Ohio (106) and Dayton (113). It is the men's team first win in the All-Ohio meet since 2001 and the third in school history (2001, 1995).
Finan, who was an All-Ohio runner-up the previous two seasons, clocked 24:44.49 in the 8,000-meter race, the eighth-fastest time in All-Ohio meet history. Junior Oliver Book (Borden, Ind./Providence) was on his heels in second place with a time of 24:58.49.
Kevin Fink (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) placed sixth with a time of 25:28.36). Evan Baum (Shaker Heights, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was 27th in 26:02.73 and Chase Beckmann (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) was 28th with a time of 26:06.01.
Non-scoring runners in the 310-harrier field were Tyler Ross (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) who was 34th with a time of 26:16.48 and Matt Collmar (North Canton,Ohio/Glen Oak) who took 38th in 26:21.74.
Runners from all levels of intercollegiate athletics from nearly 50 colleges and universities within the state took part including NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, and junior college.
On the women's side, freshman Emily Clay (Bloomington, Ill./University) was the first Bearcat to cross the line, finishing tenth with a time of 18:24.76. The women took fifth-place in the 31st annual women's championship.
The women tallied 137 points overall. Alison Zukowski (Mentor, Ohio/St. Mark's/Delaware) placed 17th in 18:36.02, Cortney Staruch (Hinckley, Ohio/Medina Highland) was 34th with a time of 18:59.24, Kaitlyn Meyer (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) took 36th with a 19:03.56 clocking and Lauren Goodwin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) came home in 40th with a 19:16.49 effort. Non-scoring runners were Bridget Connolly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes/IUP) in 43rd with a time of 19:29.38 and Jill Glassmeyer (Cincinnati,Ohio/McAuley) who placed right behind her in 44th, clocking 19:30.99.
Ohio's Juli Accurso won the women's 5,000-meter race in 17:55.38. Miami (OH) won the team title with 34 points, followed by Dayton (42), Ohio (62), Xavier (117) and the Bearcats (137).
The Bearcats head to NCAA Pre-Nationals on Sunday, Oct. 16 in Terre Haute, Ind.
