LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to tri-state rival Kentucky in a dual meet Saturday at Lancaster Aquatic Center.
The female Bearcats lost by a count of 169.5-116.5, while their male counterparts lost 192-101.
The Cincinnati women started the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay when Liz Hansson, Helena Pikhartova, Brittany Groene and Weronika Wasiakowska recorded a mark of 3 minutes, 50.87 seconds.
Wasiakowska gave UC its first individual event winner in the 100-yard backstroke after finishing in 58.03 seconds.
Pikhartova recorded Cincinnati's second individual win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a recorded time of 1:04.40
In the 19th event of the meet, the women's 200-yard backstroke, Hansson placed first after winning with a time of 2:06.04.
Senior Josefin Wede was the final individual winner for the UC women after placing first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:21.81.
Sophomore Joe Scherpenberg earned the Cincinnati men's first individual victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 4:50.94.
The Bearcats men's 200-yard freestyle relay team ended the meet on a high note after Mike Kaplan, Roberto Nevarez, Rob Walsh and Matt Hays placed first with a time of 1:26.83.
The UC swimming and diving team will compete at Keating Aquatics Center for the last time of the 2011-12 season when the Bearcats welcome Wright State to town at 11 a.m. Saturday. In honor of Senior Day, seven senior Bearcats will be honored during pre-meet ceremonies.
