The University of Cincinnati baseball team takes on Wright State University in nonconference action 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Marge Schott Stadium. The Bearcats will give the ball to senior left-hander Brad Mergen, who is coming off a career-best performance last week at Xavier University. Cincinnati looks to avenge a loss to Wright State in the first round of the 2012 Joe Nuxhall Classic in Oxford, Ohio. ON THE MOUND FOR THE BEARCATS
-Senior southpaw Brad Mergen will take the mound for the Bearcats on Wednesday. In his last start on April 24 at Xavier University, Mergen threw a career-high 7 1/3 innings pitched with a career-best seven strikeouts in UC's 4-1 loss. On the season, Mergen owns an 8.64 ERA and an 0-4 win-loss record with 10 walks and 16 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.
IT'S BEEN A WHILE
-Senior left-handed pitcher Cory Hough was in UC's starting lineup against Rutgers University on Sunday, for the first time since since May 15, 2010. However, Hough was not on the lineup card as a pitcher, instead he was the designated hitter and tied his career high with two hits after batting 2 for 3 and scoring one run.
CLEARY ATOP UC'S ALL-TIME WINS MARK
-Bearcats baseball head coach Brian Cleary earned career win No. 405 after UC defeated Ohio 11-2 April 3.
-With 405 career wins, Cleary surpassed UC hall-of-famer and longtime Cincinnati Reds official scorekeeper Glenn Sample, who from 1961-1981 recorded 404 career wins, 13 of which occurred during the autumn season.
-The career milestone is the second Cleary has achieved this year after he earned career win No. 400 when the Bearcats defeated Chicago State 6-0 in the first game of a March 10th doubleheader.
