The University of Cincinnati indoor track & field team made its return to competition after the semester break Saturday in the Doug Raymond Invitational at the Kent State Field House. The Bearcats turned in a day of solid performances, highlighted by Mackenzie Fields and Josh Dangel sweeping the titles in the women's and men's pole vault, respectively.

The Bearcats took three of the top four places in the women's pole vault. Fields won by a foot over teammate Amanda Hotaling, going over the bar at 13' 1.5". Hotaling was second at 12' 1.5" and Emily Clay was fourth at 11' 7.75". Chelsea Vaughan and Alyssa McBride each cleared 11' 7.75" to take seventh and eighth as well.

Dangel was the sole men's competitor for UC and he won with a mark of 16' 8.75", beating out the second-place finisher by six inches.

Frida Akerstrom was second in the shot put with a 49' 5.75" mark. Kaitlyn Meyer finished second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:33.35. Shanay Portis finished third in the 200 meters at 25.16, finished third in the long jump at 18' 4.25", fourth in the 400 meters at 57.38 and ran the lead leg for the 'A' relay team in the 4x400-meters relay, leading to a third place finish (3:54.31). Monica Phillips was third in the weight throw (55' 2.25"). Javette Lee finished third in the 400 meters (57.32) and fourth in the 60-meters hurdles (8.79). Erika Hurd was third in the high jump (5' 8").

UC will next be in action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19, at Indiana University's Gladstein Invitational.
