PROVIDENCE - Cincinnati's Mackenzie Fields was named BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Terrence Somerville earned BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors to kick off the outdoor track & field season as announced Monday by the BIG EAST Conference.

Fields finished first for the second straight week in the pole vault, recording a mark of 4.05m (13'3.5'') at the University of Central Florida (UCF) Invitational on March 23-24. The senior's vault tops the league and is ranked 10th nationally, as well as ranking sixth in Cincinnati outdoor program history.

Somerville finished first in the 110-meter hurdles at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa to be named BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The senior's time of 13.72 is the fastest in the BIG EAST and ranks third nationally. Somerville topped a final heat that included five of the top 15 times in the country.

According to the NCAA, "qualification to the [NCAA] championships is based on the descending-order list for the season...for each individual event contested the top 16 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay contested, the top 12 relay teams will be accepted into the competition...There are no qualifying standards for the championships season."

Four UC track and field student-athletes have top marks in the BIG EAST this outdoor season:
