Somerville Tabbed Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year

CINCINNATI- Senior hurdler Terrence Somerville was named Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year for the 2013 outdoor season, the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced.

Somerville, an Akron, Ohio native, captured the BIG EAST 110-meter hurdles title in school-record time of 13.41. In the NCAA East Preliminary race on May 24, Somerville broke his own record, clocking a 13.37 to advance to the quarterfinals. He then won his quarterfinals heat on May 25, running a 13.49 to advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

He was recently selected as the most valuable men's track student-athlete and won the Gettler Spirit of Track and Field Award, which goes to the student-athlete, male or female, who best represents UC track and field.

Somerville will receive his award while in Eugene. He is currently ranked third in the nation in the 110-meter hurdles and races in the semifinals at 8:20 p.m. ET Thursday evening. Should he advance, Somerville will race again on June 8 at 6:16 p.m. ET.
