EUGENE, Ore. - University of Cincinnati senior Terrence Somerville finished ninth in the110-meter hurdles semifinal race and earned Second Team All-American honors Thursday at the NCAA Championship.
Somerville ran in the second heat of the hurdles, finishing third in his flight in 13.67 seconds. The USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Track Athlete of the Year missed the finals by just .12 seconds, finishing behind the eighth qualifier, Trevor Brown from Colorado State.
Somerville entered this year's outdoor championship as the No. 3 hurdler in the nation. He made it to the semifinals with a quarterfinals time of 13.49 seconds. After setting the school record at the BIG EAST Championships, Somerville followed up by breaking his own record, speeding off to a 13.37 finish in the NCAA East Preliminary.
The Akron, Ohio native will continue training as he prepares to compete in the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa June 20-23. The 2013 Championships is the selection event to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships August 10 - August 18 in Moscow, Russia.
