CINCINNATI - Kenya Woodall (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) ran a collegiate best 54.29 in the 400-meter dash Friday to qualify for the finals at the 2013 US Outdoor Junior Championships. The Junior Championships, hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, run continue through Saturday.
Woodall placed eighth in the preliminaries and nabbed the final spot in the finals. Her time of 54.29 clipped her previous best by .42 seconds and also meets the qualifying standard (55.25) for the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships, which will be held August 23-25 in Medellin, Colombia. Woodall races in the finals at 2:46 p.m. on Saturday.
Also in action Friday at the Junior Championships was Woodall's teammate, Alyssa McBride (Bryan, Ohio/Bryan), who competed in the pole vault. After finishing last year's national competition in third place, McBride was unable to clear the first bar Friday. With three failed attempts at 3.80 meters (12'5 ½"), McBride was eliminated from competition.
