CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team continued to impress with its academic prowess after earning the American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Award as announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon.
The honor was given to the Bearcats after the team posted the highest grade point average among all baseball teams in the American during the 2013-14 school year.
Baseball becomes the first Cincinnati team to win the award as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
The baseball team also earned the highest GPA among all UC men's teams for the second straight semester in the spring, posting a 3.347 mark even while in season.
Three Bearcats players recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs in either semester with sophomore Mitch Patishall (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) accomplishing the feat in the fall, sophomore Kyle Seeger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading) in the spring and sophomore Woody Wallace (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) getting the mark in both semesters.
The academic performance by the baseball team propelled the University of Cincinnati athletics department to its highest GPA ever recorded. Combined, all UC student athletes finished the 2014 spring semester with a 3.125 GPA.
