CINCINNATI -The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team turned up the defensive pressure and snapped a three-game home losing skid with a 47-37 win over visiting UCF in American Athletic Conference play, Saturday inside Fifth Third Arena.
Cincinnati (9-10, 2-6 American) snapped a two-game skid overall and handed UCF (9-11, 1-7 American) its seventh-straight loss. The Bearcats never trailed in the second half, turning a five-point halftime lead into a 12-point margin with just over eight minutes to go,
UC held UCF to a 29 percent shooting night from the field and 17 percent from behind the line as the Knights went 15-of-51 and 2-of-12, respectively. The Bearcats converted 20 UCF turnovers into 21 points and had 12 assists off of 17 made baskets.
Alysesha Lovett (Newark, N.J./Malcolm X Shabazz) led the scoring effort with 12 points, also adding four rebounds and stealing three. Jeanise Randolph (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Franctional North) and Bianca Quisenberry (Springfield, Ohio/Tecumseh) each pulled down seven boards. Randolph scored all seven of her points in the second half and Chelsea Jamison (Indianapolis, Ind./Broad Ripple) scored nine and had six rebounds, both season highs, along with three assists.
Sara Djassi led the Knights with 12 points and four rebounds. Stephanie Taylor pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and Zykira Lewis scored nine off the bench.
UC went into the locker room with a 24-19 lead with Lovett's nine points and Jamison's seven leading the way. The Bearcats knocked down 10 field goals and four triples, compared to seven and two for the Knights.
The Bearcats had led by as many as 10, thanks to a 15-4 run over three minutes that turned a 3-2 UCF lead at the 16:40 mark into a 14-5 UC advantage with 13:24 left. The Knights closed the last 12 minutes of the half outscoring UC 12-7, pulling within 5 at the break.
