Herrera Leads UC During Day One of Conference Championship

CINCINNATI
-- The University of Cincinnati women's golf team wrapped up the first day of the American Athletic Conference Championship Sunday
afternoon, sitting in eighth place after a team score of 305 through the first 18 holes.

// BEARCATS IN THE FIELD
Cincinnati is currently eighth out of the nine-team field. The Bearcats are just nine strokes out of the top four with a score of 305.

Individually, Valentina Herrera (Bogotá, Colombia) placed in the top ten after the first round with a score of 74. Ashley Cassidy (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) is 19th and one stroke back with a score of 75. Herrera finished plus one on par fours and recorded 12 pars during the round.

// THE TOURNAMENT
The Ocean Course will measure 6,225 yards with par at 72 for the weekend. Play will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday with 18 holes each of the three days. An Awards presentation will take place following the final round on Tuesday. Admission is free and open to the public and live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.

// THE FIELD
The event features all nine American teams that sponsor women's golf. The nine institutions that sponsor women's golf are UCF, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, USF, SMU, Tulane and Tulsa. The Knights are ranked among the nation's top-30 teams, according to the GolfStat team rankings released on April 16. UCF is No. 18 in the latest Golf World/WGCA Golf Coaches Poll released on April 16 while Tulane is receiving votes in the same poll.
