CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team will play its final midweek game of the season on Tuesday, May 12, when it welcomes crosstown rival Xavier to Marge Schott Stadium at 6 p.m. It will be one of four final home games for the Bearcats played this week.
// UC vs. XAVIER
- Cincinnati and Xavier have met 139 times in program history with the Bearcats holding an 89-49-1 edge in the series.
- UC has won six of the last seven meetings, including twice earlier this season.
- The Bearcats took a 4-0 victory over the Musketeers in the opening game of the Joe Nuxhall Classic on April 14 behind a complete-effort from freshman pitching Tristan Hammans (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial). All but one player in the UC lineup recorded a hit, a run or an RBI in the game.
- Cincinnati won a dramatic 8-5 victory at Xavier on April 22 when junior Devin Wenzel (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) hit a 3-run homerun in the top of the ninth inning to break a 5-5 tie. It was his second homerun of the day for his first-career multi-homerun effort. Junior Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) also homered in the game.
// SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS
- Xavier enters the game with a 13-36 overall record and a 2-13 mark in BIG EAST play.
- Most recently, the Muskies were swept in a three-game conference series at St. John's in New York last weekend.
- Nate Soria leads the team with a .340 batting average.
- Andrew Jernigan has a team-high 49 hits this season with 21 runs scored, eight doubles, three homeruns, 26 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.
- On the mound, Greg Jacknewitz paces the team with a 3.31 ERA in 19 appearances.
- Trent Astle has pitched a team-high 72.0 innings in 2015 with 53 strikeouts to just 17 walks.
// OH HAPPY DAY
- Junior Ian Happ picked up a pair of prestigious honors on Thursday, May 7.
- He was named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award 30-man final watch list, designed to name the top amateur baseball player in the country. He had previously been named to both the preseason 50-man and the midseason 60-man watch lists this season after making the cut in the first two lists in 2014. Semifinalists for the award will be named on May 22.
- Happ also was named a Capital One Academic All-District 5 honoree. In addition to his athletic prowess, he has accumulated a 3.68 GPA as a finance major. Happ will be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America team which will be named at the end of May or early June.
- He was one of only three players in the nation to be named to both the Golden Spikes 30-man watch list and the Capital One Academic All-District team, joining Andrew Moore of Oregon State and D.J. Stewart of Florida State.
// WATCHING WALLACE
- Junior catcher Woody Wallace was added to the watch list for the 2015 Johnny Bench Award on Tuesday, April 13.
- The award is designed to recognize the nation's top collegiate catcher based on athletic ability, sportsmanship and leadership.
- Wallace currently ranks third on the team with a .263 batting average and has recorded 36 hits with 12 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
- He hit his first homerun of the season on Wednesday, April 15 - a solo shot in a loss to Wright State.
- He played 121 consecutive innings behind the plate for the Bearcats spanning from March 14 - April 15.
- Additionally, the backstop has thrown out 19 runners on the base paths. He currently ranks 21st in the NCAA with a .345 caught stealing percentage.

- The University of Cincinnati baseball team announced that it will retire No. 36 for legendary alumnus Kevin Youkilis on May 16 in conjunction with his retirement from Major League Baseball.
- The ceremony will take place prior to UC's Noon game against East Carolina, the Bearcats' final regular-season contest for the 2015 season.
- Youkilis will be just the third retired jersey for UC, joining Glenn Sample (No. 1) and Ed Jucker (No. 12).
- 14 years after ending his career at Cincinnati, Youkilis still ranks among the top-10 in most career statistics including batting average (2nd, .366), games played (1st, 230), at bats (3rd, 855), runs scored (1st, 279), hits (2nd, 313), doubles (2nd, 58), homeruns (1st, 53), RBIs (3rd, 203), total bases (2nd, 536), walks (1st, 206), hit by pitch (3rd, 34), sacrifice flies (2ns, 13), slugging percentage (4th, .627) and on base percentage (1st, .499).
- The Bearcats are aiming to break a Marge Schott Stadium attendance record on May 16. The current record of 2,200 was set on May 20, 2004 during the opening game for the facility.
// BIGGER THAN BASEBALL
- The University of Cincinnati baseball team partnered all season with the Vs. Cancer Foundation, raising funds and awareness to fight childhood cancer.
- Collectively, the team met its goal of $10,000 raised. Half of the money will go towards national cancer research while the other half will go directly to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
- Following the game on April 26, the entire team shaved their heads in support of the organization and its platform.
