The University of Cincinnati track & field programs capped off a great American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with the women finishing third and the men taking fourth. Both teams were under 10 points away from slipping into the runner-up positions.

// AKERSTROM, VALLES NAMED FIELD ATHLETES OF THE MEET
Senior Frida Akerstrom and freshman Adrian Valles were voted by the league coaches as the Male and Female Most Outstanding Field Athletes of the Meet, during the awards ceremony at the end of the meet. Akerstrom placed top-five in three events, including a win in the shot put, and accumulated a 20 points. Valles won the men's pole vault on Saturday with a career best mark of 18' 6.5", which is the qualifying mark for the World Championships.
// WOODALL HAS A HUGE DAY ON THE TRACK
Junior Kenya Woodall had an incredible final day at the conference championships as she competed in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay. The Coatesvilles, Pennsylvania native started the day off by helping the 4x100 team take sixth. She followed that up with a 51.78 in the 400m to finish second overall, break her own school record, and qualify for the USA Senior Championships. Woodall then took third in the 200m with a time of 23.43, just six hundredths off the school record. She capped off her lengthy day by running a 52.7 anchor leg in the in the 4x400m as she moved the team from fifth to third place.
//HURD, BLAUT GO ONE-TWO IN THE HIGH JUMP
Junior Erika Hurd and freshman Loretta Blaut finished one-two in the women's high jump with each clearing 5' 9.25". Hurd won the event on attempts. Sophomore Ashleigh Pickens also reeled in a fifth-place finish for the Bearcats. The trio combined to score 22 points in the high jump.
// ANDERSON EDGES COMPETITION FOR 400M HURDLES TITLE
Senior Andre Anderson came up big for the men's team with a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with lifetime, personal best time of 51.12 and broke UC's school record. Anderson's record time breaks Olympian David Payne's old record of 51.16, which was set in 2004.
// TUDOR, AKERSTROM SWEEP SHOT PUT TITLES
Cincinnati got it done in the shot put as junior Macklin Tudor and Akerstrom won the event in their respective genders. Tudor hurled the shot 59' 1.5" on his final toss of the event to win his first league title. Akerstrom tossed the shot 52' 8.75" to match the conference meet record and successfully defend her indoor title.
// SANDERS BREAKS 100-METER HURDLES RECORD
Senior Je'Rica Sanders clocked a career best time of 13.43 in the 100-meter hurdles on Sunday. She trumped Monica Hundley's previous record of 13.45, which was set in 2008. The Painesville, Ohio native was leading the race all the way until the final hurdle, which she clipped. The stumble to follow pushed her to fourth overall.

The Bearcats now turn their focus to the NCAA East Preliminary Round, which is May 28-30 in Jacksonville, Florida. Qualifying for the Preliminary Round is based on the descending-order list for the season, segregated by east and west sites, and prepared solely from the mandatory submission of meet results during the season and adhering to the qualifying regulations. For each individual event contested at each of the Preliminary Championships sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes are accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested at each of the Preliminary Championships sites, the top 24 declared relay teams are accepted into the competition.
