STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Cincinnati allowed four homeruns on Friday afternoon in a 12-6 loss to UConn at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Connecticut.
Freshmen Treg Haberkorn (Leo, Ind./Leo) and Kyle Mottice (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Jackson) recorded two runs apiece to lead the Bearcats while Haberkorn and junior Ian Happ (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) each scored two runs.

- With the loss, Cincinnati falls to 15-33 on the year and 6-13 in the American Athletic Conference while UConn moves to 30-20 and 9-10.
- Freshman reliever Jarod Yoakam (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) took the loss and moves to 3-5 on the year while UConn's Carson Cross (10-2) earned the win.
- Happ was walked in his first two at bats (once intentionally) and now has 123 career free bases. The mark puts him in 3rd on the all-time UC list.
- Happ tied a career high with three stolen bases in the game. He has 52 career swipes to tie for fifth all-time with Pat Maginn (1965-67).
- Head coach Ty Neal penciled five freshmen into the starting lineup and has started at least four youngsters in each game this season. Freshmen Ryan Noda (Volo, Ill./Grant) and Manny Rodriguez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Calvert Hall) have started every game for UC.
- Mottice singled in the first inning to extend his hit streak to a team-high eight games.
- Junior catcher Woody Wallace was 2-for-2 in throwing out runners on the game and has caught 19 runners stealing this season.
- Sophomore R.J. Thompson recorded two RBIs on a career-high two sacrifice flies.
- The game featured six sacrifice flies; three apiece by the Bearcats and the Huskies.
// KEY INNINGS
Top of the First
Cincinnati started the game on a high notes, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Mottice and Haberkorn led off the game with back-to-back singles before a walk to Happ loaded the bases with no outs. Consecutive sacrifice flies by Noda and Thompson scored two runs while a throwing error on a Happ stolen base brought the junior home for a 3-0 Cincinnati lead.
Bottom of the First
UC starting pitcher Ryan Atkinson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) struggled out of the gate, hitting the leadoff batter, giving up a single and walking two more for the first UConn run. Max McDowell followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in another UConn run but Atkinson responded with back-to-back strikeouts to end the UConn damage.
Top of the Second
Junior Devin Wenzel (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) led off the inning with a double to right center and scored on a throwing error by the Huskies for a 4-2 Cincinnati lead.
Bottom of the Third
The Huskies scored twice in the third to tie the game at 4-4 with four hits, including a solo homerun by Joe Deroche-Duffin.
Bottom of the Sixth
UConn broke a 5-5 tie by putting up a 4-spot in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, The Huskies used consecutive sacrifice flies to go ahead 7-5 before a 2-run homerun by Blake Davey increased the lead to 9-5.
