HOUSTON -- The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving programs collected three individual titles on the final day of competition at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships.
Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ont./Nelson) won the 100 freestyle, giving her three gold medals for the meet. She also was named Outstanding Female Swimmer for the second consecutive year. Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins) successfully defended his title in the mile and Louis Hunt (Lakeside Park, Ky./Covington Catholic) won gold in platform diving.
As a team, the UC men placed third while the women came in fourth. East Carolina won the league title on the men's side, while SMU took home the women's title. It caps team competition in the second year for head coach Mandy Commons-DiSalle.
// MILE
Sara Wanasek (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) got the mile started off right by finishing second in the women's mile. She clocked in at 16:32.41, more than 30 second better than her seed time.
Bready won the mile for the second consecutive year, finishing in 15:10.58. In setting a meet record, he was roughly 11 seconds ahead of East Carolina's Michael Dugan, who clocked in at 15:21.18.
// 200 BACKSTROKE
Sydney King (Granville, Ohio/Granville/Western Kentucky) was the top female finisher in the 200 back, winning the consolation final in 1:59.84. She narrowly missed a spot in the championship heat, falling short by .18 seconds, and her consolation final time would have been good for sixth in the A-final.
Matt McDonald (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East) represented the Bearcats in the championship heat on the men's side. He placed sixth after touching the wall in 1:47.26.
// 100 FREESTYLE
Keire collected her third title of the week and her second meet record by clocking in at 48.48 in the 100 freestyle. It marks the second consecutive year Keire has won three individual titles at the league meet and the junior now has eight career conference titles.
Three Bearcats men were in the 100 free championship heat, led by Eitan Holder (Caracas, Venezuela) with a fourth-place finish in 44.64. Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson was right behind him in fifth at 44.68 and Dmytro Turkin (Krivoy Rog, Ukraine) placed eighth in 45.14.
// 200 BREASTSTROKE
Gege Huffner (Sainte Clotilde, France) earned a podium finish in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:13.90 to finish third. She was just .08 ahead of Houston's Ashley Grijalva. Carlie Perretta (Canton, Ohio/Perry) placed sixth for UC in 2:15.03.
Another trio of UC men were in the 200 breaststroke A-final. Tyler Roehr (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) led the way in fifth with 2:00.56, followed by Zach Hostoffer (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) in seventh at 2:01.68 and Brandon Keller (Charlotte, N.C./Olympic) in eighth at 2:02.55.
// 200 BUTTERFLY
Samantha Wheatley (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) capped a strong meet, which included a runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley, by winning the consolation final of the 200 butterfly in 2:01.67.
Ryan DePietro (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) picked-up fourth-place points in the men's 200 fly, touching the wall in 1:49.01.
// 400 FREESTYLE RELAY
The UC women capped the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Wanasek, King, Katherine Gob (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) and Keire finished in 3:19.82, just .07 behind SMU. Keire clocked a blistering anchor leg of 47.54.
The men collected a third-place finish in the final event of the meet, clocking in at 2:58.23. The 400 free relay was competed by Davis, Holder, Nick Lafleur (Montreal, Que./Loyola) and Turkin. Holder, in the second position, posted the quickest split at 44.07.
// BEARCATS ON THE BOARD
Hunt captured the conference title on the platform with a score of 259.30. It marks the first conference title for UC in men's diving since Andy Kendrick won the one-meter at the Eastern Intercollegiate Conference Championships in 1994-95.
Ellen Posch (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) capped her first season with the Bearcats by earning a runner-up finish on the platform for the women's team. She scored at 223.05 to earn silver. She had the best finish by a female diver at a conference meet since Katie Godby won the one- and three-meter events at the Eastern Intercollegiates in 1995 (UC did not compete in any conference while 1996 platform national champion Becky Ruehl was with the program).

The Bearcats will have at least one swimmer in the NCAA Championships, as Keire has an A-Cut time in the 200 freestyle. The women's national meet will be held March 17-19, while the men's NCAA Championships will be March 24-26. Both meets will be held in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cincinnati will also be represented in both the Canadian and United States Olympic Trials. The Canadian trials are April 5-10 in Toronto, while the U.S. trials are June 26-July 3 in Omaha, Nebraska. Keire is schedule to compete in the Canadian trails, while DePeitro and Bready have trial cut times and are expected to join assistant coach Josh Schneider in competition at the American trials.
