MESA, Ariz. - Junior Ashley Cassidy led the University of Cincinnati women's golf team with a first round 73 as the Bearcats placed 11th overall with a score of 303 (+15) on day one at the Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame, at Longbow Golf Club.

Coming off a second-place team finish at the Amelia Island Collegiate at Amelia National Golf Club in Fernandina Beach, Florida Feb. 22-23, UC had some momentum going into play Friday in Mesa. The Bearcats were able to fire eight birdies on the day, but were unable to keep pace among the top-10 teams in the highly-competitive field. Cassidy (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) was able to achieve the most success on the day for UC with a pair of birdies and only three bogeys to place in a tie for 17th with a plus-one 73. Cassidy was joined in the top 27 on the leaderboard by junior Valentina Herrera (Bogotá, Colombia) who shot a first round 74 including two birdies.

"Today was a decent round for us with solid play from Ashley [Cassidy], Valentina [Herrera] and Christina [Gloor]," said head coach Janet Carl. "We needed to make some birdies. The greens were the fastest we have been on in a long time and the girls are adjusting. We are looking for a solid five rounds tomorrow to make a move up the leaderboard."
