Bearcats Top Miami for Fifth Straight Win

CINCINNATI
- The University of Cincinnati baseball team won its fifth consecutive game on Tuesday, topping regional rival Miami University 7-2 at Marge Schott Stadium. Sophomore pitcher David Orndorff (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena Polytechnic) earned the win for Cincinnati, going 5.2 innings and holding Miami to just two runs.

Behind the pitchers, the Bearcats showed a steady defense, turning three double plays to tie a season high and keep the RedHawks at bay on the base paths.

// Notables
- Cincinnati improves to 6-11 on the year while Miami falls to 6-8.
- Orndorff (1-1) earned the win while the RedHawks' Gus Graham (1-2) took the loss and sophomore Jarod Yoakam (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) picked up his first save of the season.
- Ondorff gets the win just two games after tallying a save in a 7-6 victory over Canisius.
- Redshirt sophomore Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) singled in the seventh inning to extend his hitting streak to 13 games for the Bearcats.
- Sophomores Ryan Noda (Volo, Ill./Grant) and Kyle Mottice (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Jackson) and freshmen Cam Alldred (Batavia, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) and A.J. Bumpass (Rougemont, N.C./Northern) all recorded two hits for Cincinnati. It is the fifth time in the last six games that at least three UC players finished a game with multiple hits.
- Senior Woody Wallace (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) launched his team-leading third homerun of the season, a two-run shot that gave the Bearcats some needed insurance runs in the sixth inning. Wallace was named a top-30 candidate for the Senior CLASS Award on Monday. An honor that recognizes senior student-athletes for their achievement in four areas: classroom, community, character and competition.
- The Bearcats stole two bases in the game and have now swiped 18 bags in the last five games.
- Alldred finished the game with two hits and has totaled seven hits in his last three games.
- Orndorff tied a career high with four strikeouts.
- Yoakam pitched a season-high 3.1 innings from the bullpen and did not allow a hit while striking out two batters.
- Bumpass showcased his strength and speed in the game, finishing with a double and a triple. He also collected two RBI and scored a run.
- The Bearcats set a new season high with 11 total hits.
- It was Cincinnati's fourth straight victory over Miami.

Bottom of the Fifth
After four innings of a pitcher' duel, the Bearcats finally broke through in the fifth. Junior R.J. Thompson (Mason, Ohio/Mason) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a single by Alldred. Two batters later, a single by Mottice scored the first run of the game before a two-out double by Bumpass brought home two more.
Top of the Sixth
A one-out triple followed by a double got Miami on the board in the sixth. After a groundout, a single by Haffey scored another RedHawks run to get MU within 3-2. Yoakam entered to pitch for the Bearcats and recorded a groundout in his first at bat to end the Miami scoring threat and keep the UC lead.
Bottom of the Sixth
The Bearcats immediately got the two runs back when Wallace lofted one over the fence in left field to bring home two runs, including Noda who was hit to lead off the inning.

Cincinnati will face Northwestern for a three game series beginning Saturday, March 19, at Marge Schott Stadium. The games will be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday, 1 p.m. on Sunday and 4 p.m. on Monday.
