Big Inning Haunts Bearcats in 7-1 Loss to No. 13 Ole Miss

-- The University of Cincinnati baseball team played its fifth game in five days on Sunday, falling 7-1 to No. 13 Ole Miss at the Chanticleer Classic in Conway, South Carolina. Redshirt junior Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) provided all of the offense for UC, hitting both of the Bearcats' hits and scoring the only run.

In the end, it was one big inning that doomed the Bearcats giving up six of Ole Miss' seven runs in the second inning. The Rebels only scored one run with just six hits throughout the other eight innings of the game.

- With the loss, Cincinnati drops to 1-10 on the year while Ole Miss advances to 10-1.
- Starting pitcher Doug Lowe II (Marysville, Ohio/Triad) (0-1) took the loss while the win went to Mississippi's Sean Johnson (3-0).

Top of the Second
After scoring a single run in the first inning, the Rebels broke the game open in the second, scoring four runs on five hits before the Bearcats could even record an out. With the bases loaded and no outs, sophomore Jarod Yoakam (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) entered from the bullpen and, although giving up two runs on consecutive sacrifice flies, got three outs in three batters to end the damage for the Bearcats.
Bottom of the Seventh
After battling from behind all game, the Bearcats finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh. McVey connected for his second hit of the game, a double, and then moved to third on a groundout by sophomore Treg Haberkorn (Leo, Ind./Leo). A passed ball allowed McVey to score, eliminating the shutout.
