CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati catcher Woody Wallace has been named to watch list of the 2016 Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com as announced by the organization on Tuesday. The award seeks to find the top catcher in NCAA DI baseball. It is the second straight year Wallace has been nominated for the award.
The Lewis Center, Ohio, native is a four-year starter for the Bearcats and has started behind the plate in all 11 games for the Bearcats this season. He has seven hits, including a homerun he hit at LSU, with four runs scored and three RBIs.
The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, which will be announced May 18. A national voting panel decide three finalists which will be announced on June 6 with the winner announced at the 19th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 30.
