CINCINNATI
- Junior pitcher Andrew Zellner (Farmersville, Ohio/Valley View) tossed the second complete game of his last three starts but the University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to USF 5-3 on Friday night at Marge Schott Stadium. It was the first game of the American Athletic Conference season for the Bearcats, which lost their first game at home this season.

The Bulls scored four runs on six hits in the top of the second inning which proved to be the difference in the game. The Bearcats scored single runs in the second, fifth and eighth innings but could not get close the deficit.

At the dish, Woody Wallace (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) led the way for Cincinnati, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. The senior launched his fifth homerun of the year in the eighth inning, a mark that leads the team.

// Notables
- Cincinnati falls to 12-13 on the year and 0-1 in The American while USF improves to 13-11 and 1-0.
- Zellner (3-2) was saddled with the loss and USF starting pitcher Phoenix Sanders (3-1) earned the victory. Tommy Eveld picked up his sixth save of the year for USF after entering in the eighth inning.
- Redshirt junior Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) did not record a hit in the game and snapped his hitting streak at 20 games. It is the longest such streak for any UC player since at least the 2001 season.
- Wallace hit his fifth homerun of the season after recoding just four long balls in each of his last three seasons combined.
- Sophomore Ryan Noda (Volo, Ill./Grant) also notched two hits for UC.
- Sophomore Treg Haberkorn (Leo, Ill./Leo) hit his team-leading fourth triple of the year. He needs just one more to enter the UC record book for triples in a single season which would tie him for seventh.
- The loss was the first of the season at Marge Schott Stadium for the Bearcats who are 10-1 at home on the year. The 10-0 start ties a program record - the team finished a perfect 10-0 at home in 1961.
