GREENVILLE, N.C. - The University of Cincinnati baseball team tied No. 17 East Carolina 3-3 on Sunday afternoon in a shortened game due to travel constraints. The teams sat through a one hour and 34 minute rain delay after the second inning and faced a drop dead time of 4 p.m. which shortened the game to eight innings.
UC faced a 3-1 deficit in the top of the eighth knowing it would be the final inning of the game. The Bearcats scored two runs to tie the score and made three impressive outs to preserve the tie and split the series with ECU 1-1-1.

- Cincinnati moves to 21-22-1 on the year and 9-5-1 in the American Athletic Conference while No. 17 East Carolina goes to 27-16-1 and 8-6-1.
- It is the first tie game for Cincinnati since March 17, 2002, when it played No. 18 East Carolina to a 5-5 draw to split the Conference USA series.
- Sophomore Treg Haberkorn (Leo, Ind./Leo) drew a walk in the third inning and has reached base safely in 18 consecutive games.

Top of the First
The Bearcats grabbed a 1-0 lead on the second pitch of the game when Mottice led off with a solo homerun to right field. McVey was hit to put another Bearcats player on base but he was stranded there after a 10-pitch at bat to senior Woody Wallace (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) ended in a flyout to center field.
Bottom of the Third
After the rain delay, a one-out double by Parker Lamm put runners on second and third for the Pirates. Turner Brown then grounded out to Mottice for the second out but the runner scored to tie the game at 1-1.
Bottom of the Seventh
A single and an error put two runners on for the Pirates with one out. The next batter, Charlie Yorgen, singled through the right side to score one runner and give ECU a 2-1 lead. Parker Lamm then grounded out bring home another ECU run before the Bearcats turned a double play to end the damage with a 3-1 East Carolina lead.
Top of the Eighth
After a leadoff walk to freshman Cam Alldred (Batavia, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day), sophomore Manny Rodriguez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Calvert Hall) tripled to bring home a runner and get UC within two. Walks to freshman Cole Murphy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) and Mottice loaded the bases with one out before McVey sent a two-out single through the right side to score Rodriguez and tie the game at 3-3.
Bottom of the Eighth
In the final half inning of the game, Yoakam returned to the mound and needed just four pitches to finish off the Pirates. Three flyouts, including a diving catch by right fielder senior Devin Wenzel (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) ended the game in a 3-3 tie.
