// Key Innings
Bottom of the Third
The Bearcats played small ball to manufacture a run in the opening frame after Mottice sent the first pitch of the game into left field for a single. He stole second base before a well-executed sacrifice bunt by senior Woody Wallace (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) moved the runner to third. With one out, a groundout by redshirt sophomore Connor McVey (Mason, Ohio/Mason) scored Mottice for a 1-0 Cincinnati lead.
Top of the Fourth
UC doubled its lead in the fourth inning to go ahead 2-0. McVey singled to lead off the inning, stole second and moved to third on a groundout by sophomore Manny Rodriguez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Calvert Hall). With two outs, sophomore Joey Thomas (Mason, Ohio/Mason) stepped to bat and singled through the right side to bring home McVey.
Top of the Fifth
McVey drove in his second and third RBIs of the game in the fourth inning when his 1-out single up the middle scored both Murphy and Mottice for a 4-0 Cincinnati lead.
Bottom of the Fifth
UCF answered with a pair of its own runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Consecutive 1-out singles placed runners on the corners while a UC fielding error brought home the first run of the day for the Knights. One batter later, a single by Matthew Mika advanced the runners and another UC error scored the second run. UCF threatened more but first baseman Murphy snagged a liner and tagged the bag for the unassisted double play to end the inning.
Bottom of the Seventh
The Knights were looking for runs in the seventh when Buddy Putnam launched a 1-out double into the left field corner with a runner on first base. Left fielder R.J. Thompson (Mason, Ohio/Mason), shortstop Rodriguez and catcher Thomas teamed up to get the runner at the plate and keep UCF scoreless in the frame.
