XC: Huben Paces Men with Fourth-Place Finish at Queen City Invite

WEST CHESTER, OHIO - The University of Cincinnati cross country program played host to the 35th Queen City Invitational Saturday morning with Dan Huben pacing the men as he placed fourth overall in the 6,000m race while the women placed a trio of runners in the Top 25. The races were contested at Voice of America MetroPark in West Chester, Ohio, the same course that will play host to the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships at the end of October.

Overall, the UC men finished fourth in the team standings with 106 points while Ohio State took home the team title with 23 points. Northern Kentucky was the runners-up with 62 points while Xavier was third (73) and Wright State (113) was fifth. In the women's race, the Bearcats finished third overall with 93 points while OSU won the title with 15 points. Cedarville was second with 66 points with the Top 5 being rounded out by WSU (106) and NKU (133). Indianapolis (152), Xavier (209), the UC Running Club (257) and Kentucky State (290) rounded out the women's teams.

The men's 6,000m race led off the day with Huben setting the pace as he covered the course in 18:31.3 to finish fourth overall. He was followed by John Murdock, who was 16th in 19:10.9, to give the Bearcats a pair of Top 20 finishers. The scoring five were rounded out by a trio of freshmen in Austin Angeline (19:50.6) in 35th, Jake Barnes (20:02.30) in 43rd and Frank Pierce (20:06.6) in 47th. Joshua DeJesus also ran in the race, placing 59th in 20:54.4.

In the women's race, the Bearcats saw three women finish in the Top 25 with all three breaking 23-minutes, including Juliana Madzia, who was the team's top finisher in 19th place at 22:47.2. She was immediately followed across the line by teammates Lianne Masquelier (22:49.3) and Marina Wrede (22:55.5), who finished 20th and 21st, respectively. The scoring five were rounded out by Hannah Markel (23:11.9) in 26th and Tessa Ward (23:19.4) in 30th. Also running the Bearcats were Grace O'Donnell (23:24.5) in 32nd; Cassidy Carey (23:32.7) in 36th; Meg Westerheide (23:38.5) in 39th; Tes Corea (24:10.0) in 52nd; and Sammy Hentz (24:19.3) in 55th.

The Bearcats will now use the next three weeks to train before returning to competition at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships that will be held at Cedarville University on Friday, September 30.
