GREENVILLE, N.C. - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team has surged into second place following two rounds at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina.
In total, the Bearcats shot a team score of 606 (+30) which is good for runner-up out of 18 teams. Host East Carolina is pacing the field with a plus-19 595.

After taking a two-week break following its season-opening participation in the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational Sept. 12-13, UC traveled south to conference foe East Carolina's event. In a large field of competition, the Bearcats showed well with senior Valentina Herrera (Bogotá, Colombia) leading the charge with a two-round 147 (+3) to place in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard. Herrera shot a second-round 71 which tied for the best one-round score on the day and is five shots off the lead which is held by Morehead State's Anna Magnusson. The native Colombian's round of 71 is also a tie for a career best for her.
UC managed to place two additional golfers among the top 20 on the individual leaderboard with junior Christina Gloor (Mattstetten, Switzerland/ESC La Neuveville) and senior Ashley Cassidy (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) each carding identical rounds of 78 and 74 in the first two rounds. In her first competition of the fall season, senior Tara Liebert (Mason, Ohio/Mason) turned in rounds of 77 and 78 including three birdies during round two. Freshman Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia) placed among the top 44 - out of 90-plus golfers -- with a score of 156.

"We got off to a slow start but the team fought really hard through the second round," said head coach Janet Carl. "They put themselves in a situation to be able to climb the leaderboard. Now they need to go out and finish strong."
