TicketsEVANSVILLE, Ind. - Despite some weather delays, the University of Cincinnati women's tennis team earned a pair of doubles wins to during the first day of action at the Evansville Metro Collegiate Invite Saturday.
The two-day event features both singles and doubles action over the course of two days. The event is hosted by Evansville and Southern Indiana and features nine total teams, with six Division I teams and three Division II teams.
Four #Bearcats will represent Cincinnati at the event with Caroline Morton (Dubuque, Iowa/Evert Tennis Academy), Antonella Bramato (Pachuca, Mexico/Elise Freinet), Anna Philp (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Central) and Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) all competing.
Cincinnati won a pair of doubles titles on the first day thanks to the duos of Morton and Philp and Bramato and Bure. Morton and Philp, both true freshmen, won their first match of the day in the No. 3 doubles flight by a swift 6-0 score. The pair then defeated opponents from UT-Martin 7-5. In the championship match Morton and Philp took care of Friess and Shatalova from Western Kentucky by a 7-5 score to take the title.
Bramato and Bure took a similar path to their victory, earning three-straight wins. The duo had their closest match of the day in the opener, taking care of UT-Martin opponents by a 6-3 score. Bramato and Bure then rolled to a 6-1 and 6-0 victories in the next two matches to take the title in the No. 4 doubles flight.
In singles action, Morton and Philp both came away with wins in their only action of the day. Morton added a 7-5, 6-3 win over Jonathan of Bellarmine in the No. 3 singles flight while Philp had no trouble with Mather of Belmont, earning the win by a score of 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles flight.
