CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team cruised through the first day of action at the UC Invitational Friday afternoon, picking up wins in all six doubles matches and six of seven singles matches.
// DOUBLES
The Bearcats won all six doubles matches during Friday, using a total of six different duos. Against Dayton, Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and Caroline Morton (Dubuque, Iowa/Evert Tennis Academy) teamed up for a 6-0 win on the first court while Antonella Bramato (Pachuca, Mexico/Elise Freinet) and Katya Bure (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) also added a 6-0 win in the second spot. Harley Hutchison (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) wrapped up the sweep with a 6-2 on the third court.
Against crosstown rivals Xavier, The Bearcats added another three doubles wins. Against the Musketeers, UC teamed up Bramato and Anna Philp (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Central) for a 6-2 while on the first court while Hutchison and Morton picked up a 6-1 win on the second court. Bellinger and Poggensee-Wei finished up with a 6-3 win on the third court.
// SINGLES
The Bearcats had similar success in singles action, taking six of seven matches played. All six of the wins for Cincinnati came in straight sets, including a 6-2, 6-2 win for Philp on court No. 6.
