Hutchison, Morton Compete on Day One of ITA Regionals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.
- The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team had two individuals in action during the first day of the ITA Regional Championships presented by Oracle. The event is hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.

The ITA Regional Championship features some of the top men's and women's player across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country.

Two Bearcats competed on the first day with Harley Hutchison (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Caroline Morton (Dubuque, Iowa/Evert Tennis Academy) each competing in the qualifying singles bracket and teaming up to play in the qualifying doubles bracket. Hutchison suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss to No. 3 seeded Mariana Humberg of Louisville. Morton was victorious in her opening match, defeating Lisa Friess of Western Kentucky by scores of 6-3, 6-2. She then faced off with No. 4 seeded Lidia Burrows of hosting MTSU, suffering a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(7) loss. In doubles action, the duo lost by an 8-3 score to No. 3 seeded Magazzini and Zirilli of MTSU.

Morton will compete in the consolation bracket and will face off with Olivia Boesing of Louisville at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) will each compete in the main draw for singles and doubles tomorrow. Bellinger drew the No. 1 overall seed, Sydney Campbell of Vanderbilt in her first match that will start at 9 a.m. on Friday. Poggensee-Wei will face Delaney Edwards of UT-Chattanooga at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning. In doubles action, the team is the No. 3 overall seed and will face off with Candeloro and Potter from UT-Martin Friday at 3:30 p.m.
