Bearcats Wrap Up Solid First Round at Cardinal Cup

First Round Scores SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati women's golf team ended Sunday's opening round of play at the Louisville Cardinal Cup -- at UofL Golf Club -- in a tie for sixth place out of 16 teams, while junior Christina Gloor is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard.

Competing for the first time since Oct. 9 at the Yale Intercollegiate, the Bearcats showed well on Sunday with a combined team score of 311 (+23) to place in a tie for sixth place with American Athletic Conference foe East Carolina. Gloor (Mattstetten, Switzerland/ESC La Neuveville) led UC's scoring team with a two-over-par 74 to tie for fifth place overall on the individual leaderboard. The junior birdied four holes including bouncing back from a double-bogey on hole No. 1 with birdies on two and three. Senior Tara Liebert (Mason, Ohio/Mason) continued the momentum from her runner-up finish at the Yale Intercollegiate with a first round 77 on Sunday to tie for 18th overall. Liebert holed two birdies on the day, both on the front nine holes. Seniors Valentina Herrera (Bogotá, Colombia) and Ashley Cassidy (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), as well as individual competitor freshman Daniela Murcia (Bogotá, Colombia), each carded eight-over-par rounds of 80.

"The team fought really hard today," said head coach Janet Carl. "They were mentally tough in conditions that were rough. We will need to go out and be in control of our mental game again tomorrow.
