Relays Highlight Day One at American Championships

// MEET CENTRAL

HOUSTON -- The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 17, with both genders setting school records in the 800 freestyle relay.

// 800 FREESTYLE RELAY
The UC team of Caroline Sheehan (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), Sydney King (Granville, Ohio/Granville/Western Kentucky), Sara Wanasek (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) and Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ont./Burlington) earned second-place points in the first swimming event of the meet, finishing second in the 800 freestyle relay. The Bearcats time of 7:14.14 was just behind first-place finisher SMU, who clocked in at 7:12.78. Keire, swimming the anchor leg, posted the fastest split for Cincinnati at 1:43.88.

On the men's side, the Bearcats collected a third-place finish thanks to Eitan Holder (Caracas, Venezuela/Aviv (Israel)), Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson), Chris Bready (Missouri City, Texas/Lawrence E. Elkins) and Hunter Pasek (Villa Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic). UC finished in 6:35.56, behind first-place East Carolina at 6:27.91 and second-palce SMU in 6:32.71.

// 200 MEDLEY RELAY
The UC women placed fifth in the 200 medley relay. Lindsey Niehaus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), Kennedy Herbert (Green, Ohio/Green),Iuliia Fedoreeva (Barnaul, Russia) and Amanda Deller (Fairfied, Ohio/McAuley) clocked in at 1:42.04.

For the men, Dmytro Turkin (Krivoy Rog, Ukraine), Corsini, Holder and Alex Hutchinson (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison/Ohio State) earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:29.31.

// BEARCATS ON THE BOARD
Men's diving saw competition on the one-meter during the first day of competition, with Louis Hunt (Lakeside Park, Ky./Covington Catholic) the top finisher for Cincinnati. He placed 11th with a finals score of 240.30. In the women's three-meter competition, Ellen Posch (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) was the top UC swimmer with a finals mark of 226.30 which was good for 12th.

// DAY TWO PREVIEW
The action in Houston picks-up on Thursday, Feb. 18. Individual events will include the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay will be competed, as well as women's one-meter diving.

Keire is the two-time defending women's 500 free champion, while she has the quickest seed time in the conference in the 50 freestyle.
