Bearcats Suffer 5-1 Loss to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team suffered a 5-1 road loss Sunday afternoon at the hands of Indiana University.

Cincinnati couldn't find a rhythm during doubles action, with the Hoosiers collecting wins on all three courts.

Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) added Cincinnati's lone win during singles action. On court No. 2, the senior defeated Paula Guitierrez in the opening frame 7-5 before dropping the second set 2-6. She came out on top in the tiebreaker by a 10-6 score to secure the point for UC. Anna Philp (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Central) rebounded from a 1-6 loss in the first set to force a third set, but the match went unfinished.

"We just couldn't quite get on track today and against a good team like Indiana you will pay the price for not competing and executing over the entire duration of the match," noted head coach Eric Toth of the loss. "We'll get back to the practice courts this week and prepare for a very good Marshall team on Friday."

The Bearcats return home on Friday, February 3 to host Marshall for a 5 p.m. match at the Western Tennis & Fitness Club. The Thundering Herd handed UC a 6-1 loss last season in Huntington.
