CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati opened the weekend with a convincing 5-2 win over Butler Friday afternoon in the first match played at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center this season.

The Bearcats quickly took the 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with wins on courts No. 3 and No. 1. Antonella Bramato (Pachuca, Mexico/Elise Freinet) and Caroline Morton (Dubuque, Iowa/Evert Tennis Academy) cruised to a 6-0 win on court No. 3 before Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) took a 6-4 win to secure the first point for UC.

Poggensee-Wei was the first off the courts for the Bearcats, securing a clean sweep 6-0, 6-0 win to make the lead 2-0. Morton was the second finisher for the Bearcats, recording a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Harley Hutchison finished moments after and secured the win for UC with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court No. 6. Bramato added a win on court No. 3 before Butler secured wins on the final two courts to account for the 5-2 final score.

The Bearcats will wrap up the weekend homestand with a match against Dayton on Saturday, March 25 at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center. The match start has been moved up to 11 a.m. to avoid predicted rain in the area later in the afternoon.
