Bearcats Close out Regular Season with 4-0 Win over ECU

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team picked up a xx-xx win Sunday afternoon at the Western Tennis & Fitness Center to cap off the regular season on a nine-match winning streak.

The doubles point took nearly an hour to decide as the point came down to a pair of tiebreakers on courts No. 1 and No. 2. Cincinnati started with a win on court No. 3 thanks to a 6-2 victory from Antonella Bramato (Pachuca, Mexico/Elise Freinet) and Caroline Morton (Dubuque, Iowa/Evert Tennis Academy).

Both courts No. 1 and No. 2 went into tiebreakers simultaneously with the Bearcats needing just one win to score the opening point. Both courts opened with an early ECU lead but Kelly Poggensee-Wei (Lake Villa, Ill./Grayslake North) and Lauren Bellinger (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) were able to overcome a 3-2 deficit to eventually win the tiebreaker 7-3. Harley Hutchison (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Ali Miller (Portsmouth, Ohio/Portsmouth) were up 5-2 in their tiebreaker when play was stopped.

Cincinnati carried the momentum from the doubles point into singles action, with the Bearcats winning the first set on all six courts. Caroline Morton moved the lead to 2-0 with Morton's 6-2, 6-1 win on court No. 4. It moved the freshman's win streak to 13-straight matches and an overall record of 16-4 in dual singles action.

Bramato was the next off the courts with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court No. 3, moving her record to 13-6 this season in singles action. Hutchison sealed the win for UC on court No. 4, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-4.

The Bearcats will travel to the American Athletic Conference Championships held at the USTA National Campus on April 19-23 in Orlando, Florida. Seeding and match time for the Bearcats will be announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
