Cassidy Third Following First Round at The American Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. - University of Cincinnati women's golf senior Ashley Cassidy carded a first round 69 (-3) to move into a tie for third place following the first round of play at the 2017 American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club. As a team, the Bearcats shot a 301 (+13) to sit in eighth place.

On the opening day of the league tournament, Cassidy (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) put together her best round of the season with a career-low-tying 69 to place in a tie for third place out of 45 golfers on the individual leaderboard. Just three shots off the lead and just one back of second place, the senior shot six birdies on the day including four on the front nine holes. In her first appearance at The American Championship, sophomore Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead) fired a four-over-par 76 to move into a tie for 24th. UC's remaining three scorers shot rounds of 78 to tie for 33rd overall.
