CINCINNATI - Jacqueline Keire, who recently completed a highly decorated career with the University of Cincinnati swimming & diving program, is currently in Taipei, Taiwan, as a member of Team Canada at the 29th World University Games and has already begun competition, securing a gold medal in the 4x100 relay Sunday morning at the Taiwan Sport University Arena. Keire, a three-time All-American and 13-time American Athletic Conference champion at UC over the past four years, will also compete in the 4x200 free relay along with the 50 free and 100 free individual swims.
Early Sunday morning (Eastern time), the heats of the 4x100 relay were held with Keire joining Sarah Fournier, Kennedy Alison Goss and Kelsey Lauren Wog to finish third in their heat in 3:43.99 and place seventh overall with the Top 8 qualifying to the final. Later in the day, Keire helped Canada capture gold as the team won in 3:39.21, just edging the Russian team by 0.18 seconds. Keire was the second leg and joined Katerine Savard, Fournier and Alexia Zevnik on the victorious team that held off Russia (3:39.39) and the United States (3:40.09) in a close race.
Keire's first individual race of the championships will come Monday as she is set for the heats of the 100 free. Should she advance, the semifinals also will be contested Monday night with the final taking place Tuesday. It will be a similar set up for the 50 free competition with heats and semifinals taking place Friday and the final being held Saturday. Between the individual races, Keire will swim on the 4x200 free relay that will see both the heats and final being held Wednesday.
