CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati cross country teams took part in the annual All-Ohio Cross Country Championships Saturday afternoon with both teams getting strong performances up front at the meet contested at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio. Madison Dunlap was the top finisher for the women as she placed 17th overall with a personal best of over two minutes in a 6,000m race while Nick Grismer was the top men's finisher, placing 23rd overall in the men's 8,000m competition.
// TEAM STANDINGS
The women scored 204 points to finish seventh in the 37th running of the All-Ohio Championships and stood fourth amongst NCAA Division I teams as well. Dayton took both crowns as the Flyer women scored 26 points to take the trophy. In the overall standings, Ohio (85), Walsh (145), Akron (177) and Malone (183) rounded out the Top 5 while UD, OU, UA, UC and Toledo comprised the Top 5 standings for Division I.
On the men's side, Dayton completed the sweep as the Flyers won the title with 27 points and were followed in the Top 5 by Akron (79), Ohio (93), Malone (167) and Walsh (169) with the Bearcats finishing 12th overall with 335 points. In the Division I standings, UC was sixth overall with UD, UA, OU, Kent State and Wright State placing ahead of UC.
// WOMEN'S 6,000m CHAMPIONSHIP
Dunlap hand another huge day for the women as she posted another personal best, this time seeing her time drop 2:16.9 as she ran the 6,000m course in 22:06.1 to place 17th overall and 10th among the Division I runners. She was followed across the line by Tessa Ward, who ran a nearly 50-second PR as she was 32nd overall in 22:34.5. Sam Mikula (22:40.7), Lianne Masquelier (22:57.4) and Meg Westerheide (232:06.0) finished 36th, 55th and 66th, respectively, to round out the scoring positions for the team. Also running in the race of 343 individuals was Grace O'Donnell, who placed 174th overall in 24:37.6, and Cassidy Carey, who was 201st in 25:06.1.

Three UC women raced in the open competition that saw 180 runners finish. Sammy Hentz was the top UC finisher as she ran 24:32.8 to place 20th overall. Sydney Hess ran 25:08.9 to finish 49th overall while Tes Corea crossed the finish line 59th with a time of 25:24.8.
// MEN'S 8,000m CHAMPIONSHIP
Grismer led the charge for the Bearcats as he covered the 8,000m course in 25:36.4 to place 23rd overall and 15th among Division I runners while also bettering his previous best at this distance by 6.8 seconds. Frank Pierce also recorded a big improvement with his time of 26:12.4 that not only placed him 61st overall, but also saw him lower his previous best by 1:47.7. Spencer Clark (26:26.0), Steven Zombory (26:29.6) and Seamus Collins (26:45.5) rounded out the scoring places for the Bearcats as they crossed the finish line in 76th, 80th and 104th, respectively.
Four other Bearcats also raced on the day with Brandon Nosker leading the way as he was 108th overall in 26:47.4. Matt Stump (26:57.1) and Michael Vitucci (27:28.5) placed 124th and 161st, respectively, while Dan Huben began the race, but was unable to complete the course.
// MEN'S 8,000m OPEN
Two men took part in the open portion of the meet with Jake Barnes running 26:50.7 to place 28th overall while Joshua DeJesus ran 27:38.3 to finish 70th among 245 runners. Both men recorded personal bests for 8,000m races with Barnes bettering his previous by 2:46.5 and DeJesus tallying a 45.6 improvement.

Following a week off from competition, the Bearcats will travel south to Louisville on October 14 as they will compete in the NCAA Pre-National Invitational. The meet will be conducted on the same course that will be used for the NCAA Championships in November.
