CINCINNATI - Hannah Markel had another strong race and Meg Westerheide posted her fastest 5,000m time to help the University of Cincinnati women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the inaugural John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday morning. The meet was held on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course - the same course that will be used for the NCAA Great Lake Region Championships later this season - with the Bearcats going up against a pair of nationally-ranked foes.

// TEAM STANDINGS
The Bearcats placed fourth overall in the team standings as they tallied 90 points with host Indiana State just ahead of them in third with 82 points. Michigan, ranked third nationally in the early USTFCCCA rankings, took the team title with the minimum 15 points as five Wolverines crossed the finish line before any other team while #28 Louisville were the runners-up with 49 points. Evansville closed out the team scoring with 154 points to place fifth in the standings.

// WOMEN'S 5,000m
Markel posted her second strong showing in as many weeks as she broke 19 minutes once again to finish 22nd overall in 18:29.1. Just behind her was Meg Westerheide, who was 24th overall after running 18:36.4, a personal-best time in cross country. Westerheide's previous best on a 5,000m course came last year at the Friendship Invitational in Cedarville when she ran 18:53.8. Rounding out the team's Top 5 scorers were Madison Dunlap (18:41.6) in 28th; freshman Sam Mikula (18:48.5) in 32nd; and Tessa Ward (19:01.1) in 36th.

Four other women also raced for the Bearcats and were led by Lianne Masquelier (19:26.0), who placed 41st overall. Also running were Syndey Hess (20:23.7) in 61st; Tes Corea (20:29.3) in 63rd; and Grace O'Donnell (20:31.9) in 65th.
