CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati baseball team clinched the series win on Sunday afternoon by beating UT Martin 6-3.
The Bearcats took three out of four games with the Skyhawks, only losing the third game which went into eleven innings.
 
// NOTABLES
• UC improves to 5-4 on the season with the victory while UTM drops to 2-9
Jalen Wade pitched well in his first collegiate start. The freshman went 6.0 innings with four hits, two earned runs, no walks and eight strikeouts. He did not allow a hit or a run until the fourth frame
Tristan Hammans threw 2.0 scoreless innings with no runs, no walks and three strikeouts and Doug Lowe II cruised through the ninth for the save
Kyle Mottice continued his hot hitting. He had another two hits to bat .500 in the weekend series
Connor McVey and Cole Murphy also finished the day with two hits. Murphy and Eric Santiago each had a homerun while Murphy added in a double
 
// KEY INNINGS
Bottom of the 2nd

• The Bearcats struck early with a three-run second inning. Murphy doubled, Joey Thomas singled and Santiago blasted a homerun to left field for the early lead
Top of the 4th
• The Skyhawks got their first run on two singles and an error
Bottom of the 5th
• McVey led off the bottom of the fifth with a double as UC added to its lead. Murphy homered to deep left center for a two RBI later in the frame
Top of the 6th
• UT Martin made it a two-run game with two runs in the next inning. A double and homerun put the score at 5-3
Bottom of the 6th
• The final tally of the ball game came when Santiago walked, Haberkorn reached on a bunt single and Mottice was hit by a pitch to load the bases. McVey earned himself another RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field

• UC will travel to Indiana for a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 7
• The Bearcats are home again next weekend for a three-game series with Tennessee
