CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track and field team produced many solid marks on the day as the Bearcats took part in the Jim Click Shootout that was contested Saturday at Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. Two school records, eight all-time Top 10 marks and 37 personal-bests were recorded in the Sonoran Desert meet that saw the Bearcats face competition from three power conferences.

// TEAM STANDINGS
The Shootout featured six teams hailing from the Pac-12, Big 12, Big Ten and the American Athletic Conference and utilized team scoring throughout. On the women's side, the Bearcats scored 107 points and placed fourth overall while Kansas State won the team title with 154 points. Host Arizona (125) was the runner-up with Auburn taking third (121). Illinois (90) and Ohio State (83) rounded out the women's scoring. On the men's side, UA won the title with 171 points and was followed by UI (161), OSU (113), KSU (100), AU (75) and UC (57).

// SOLID MARKS
As a team, the Bearcats recorded 37 personal-best marks on the day with the men posting 21 and the women 16. Added to that, the Bearcats posted eight marks that rank in the program's all-time Top 10 with the women recording five and the men three. In those Top 10 marks were also two school records. Also, the Bearcats won two events on the day with Brooke Catherine taking the top spot in the women's pole vault and Loretta Blaut winning the women's high jump (1.80m/5-10.75).

// BRINGING HEAT IN THE DESERT
Being in a desert, there was plenty of heat on the day, but that didn't stop the Bearcats as 15 total PRs were attained in the sprints by the men and women. Of those marks, three found their way onto the program's all-time list with Tiona Lattimore leading the charge as she broke the school record in the 100m dash and improved her time in the 200m as well. Lattimore opened the day in the 100m dash and took second overall in the event as she ran 11.52 to break the school record that had been held by both Kenya Woodall (2016) and Natasha Burse (2011) at 11.53. Lattimore's time was a huge improvement as she lowered her previous PR by 0.38 seconds (11.90). In the same race, Kellsa Mbah ran 11.86, an improvement of 0.20 seconds, for the #8 spot on the list. Later in the meet, Lattimore was back at in the 200m dash as she moved up one spot to #3 all-time in the event by running 23.54 to place fourth overall. Last year, Lattimore ran a best of 23.74 (-0.20), which is currently the program's freshman record.

// MEECE MAKING MARKS
For the second meet in a row, freshman Sam Meece broke a program rookie record in a throwing event, this time adding the discus crown to his mantle. Meece launched the discus out to 51.74m (169-09) to finish fourth in the meet and better his previous best by 6' 6". With the throw, he not only moved up to #7 on the program's all-time Top 10, but also took possession of the freshman record that had stood for 27 years when Scott Ference threw 50.46m (165-07) in 1991. The mark today by Meece bettered that mark by 4'2" and came one week after he broke the hammer throw freshman record last week. Meece wasn't done there, however, as he improved his shot put best to 16.28m (53-05.00) to finish eighth in the meet and the #10 standing in the program's Top 10.

// MOVING ON UP
Three other Bearcats posted all-time Top 10 marks on the day with all three coming in field events. Catherine bettered her standing in the pole vault as she won the event with a clearance of 4.05m (13-03.50) to take over the #5 position all-time. In the women's discus, Alexis Gray threw the plate to 49.74m (163-02) for the #3 spot all-time, marking the second week in a row she has improved her #3 standing at UC. Finally, transfer Marcus Abraham recorded a PR and the school's #5 mark in the shot put as he put the ball out to 17.31m (56-09.50) to place fourth overall.

// MORE BIG THROWS
Two throwers also had big marks on the day that produced by personal bests. For the women, Ashley Williams recorded PRs in both the discus and the hammer with her hammer mark being the big one as she finished sixth overall with a best of 47.10m (154-06), a mark that improved her PR by 17'2". Previously, her best measured 137'4". On the men's side, Chris Province produced a 6' improvement on his PR in the javelin as he tossed the spear to 49.30m (161-09) to place eighth on the day.

// FAST TIMES ON THE TRACK - WOMEN
Three other women had strong showings on the track with big PRs, including Juliana Puopolo, Angelica Lightfoot and Sammy Hentz. Puopolo ran the two shortest races and posted PRs in both, running 12.31 in the 100m dash after running 14.30 in the 100m hurdles. Lightfoot also turned in a PR in the hurdles as she ran 14.25 before she cleared a lifetime best of 1.65m (5-05.00) in the high jump as well. Hentz raced to a time of 2:12.80 in the 800m run, leaving her just 0.26 seconds off the program's all-time Top 10.

// FAST TIMES ON THE TRACK - MEN
The men's short sprints also posted several strong times with Austin Edwards and Mykel Chambers lowering their PRs. Edwards ran 10.60 in the 100m dash, leaving him just 0.03 off the #10 time in program history (10.57). Chambers lowered his times in two events as he ran 10.78 in the 100m and 21.79 in the 200m, marking the first time he has run under 22 seconds in the 200m event.
