GREENVILLE, N.C. – University of Cincinnati baseball lost 13-6 Saturday as No. 10 ECU was able to even the series.
 
// NOTABLES
• Cincinnati now sits at 26-23 on the season and 11-9 in conference play
• ECU improves to 36-13 and 12-8
Cole Murphy had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a homerun, double, three RBI and two runs scored. He was the only Bearcats player to have a multi-hit day
Joey Wiemer had UC's only other extra-base hit, a double
Nathan Kroger suffered the loss and was followed by relievers Jalen Wade, Tristan Hammans and Isaac Olson
• The Bearcats' defense remained solid as the team did not commit any errors and recorded one double play
 
// KEY INNINGS
Bottom of the 1st
A solo homerun gave ECU an early lead
Bottom of the 3rd
• Three runs were added on to the lead in the third. A double and hit batter put two on before a three-run homerun to right field brought them all home
Top of the 5th
• UC got on the board in the fifth. Murphy doubled on an eight pitch at-bat and moved to third when the ECU catcher had to throw down to first on a swinging strikeout. Treg Haberkorn then hit a ball down towards first and dove in to the bag safely to pick up the RBI base hit
Bottom of the 5th
• The Pirates got that run back and tacked on an additional run with back-to-back solo shots. Those made it a 6-1 game
Top of the 6th
• The Bearcats made it a one-run game with a big four-run frame. Kyle Mottice led off with a walk, moved to second on a ground out and over to third on a single by Manny Rodriguez. A.J. Bumpass flew out to left field for a sacrifice fly. After Eric Santiago earned a base hit to put two on, Murphy crushed a ball over the wall in right field for a three-run shot
Bottom of the 6th
• Unfortunately, ECU was able to get four of those runs back in the bottom of the inning to put its lead back to five runs. Four singles, a double, sacrifice fly and two groundouts made up the action in the inning
Top of the 7th
• UC's bats continued to work as Mason DeAnna walked and scored later on a RBI single by Connor McVey
Bottom of the 7th
• With two outs the Pirates hit a two-run homerun to expand their lead to 12-6
Bottom of the 8th
• A walk and double tacked on another run for ECU
 
// UP NEXT
• The final game at ECU will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m.
• UC returns home for an 11 a.m. game against Ohio State on Tuesday, May 15
