CINCINNATI - Loretta Blaut had a banner day in the high jump to capture her third American Athletic Conference title in a row as action at the 2018 AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a close Sunday night at Gettler Stadium in Cincinnati with the UC women placing third overall and the men sixth. Overall, UC won four titles on the weekend to close out the season for a majority of the team.

// TEAM STANDINGS
The Bearcats women finished third overall and the men sixth in the standings this year with the women finishing just outside of the Top 2 by one-half of one point as Houston swept both crowns. On the women's side, the Bearcats accumulated 90.5 points over the three-day competition with the Cougars winning the title with 113 points and ECU taking runner-up honors with 91. UConn (87) and SMU (82) rounded out the Top 5 teams in the standings. On the men's side, Houston ran away with the title as they scored 172 points with Memphis taking second with 147.5 points. The Top 5 was rounded out by Wichita State (130), UConn (112) and Tulsa (78) while the UC men scored 63 points to take sixth.

// BLAUT CONTINUES TO DOMINATE
One of the biggest highlights of the final day of competition came in the women's high jump as Blaut not only successfully defended her title in the event and won her third title in a row (indoors included), but did so with a career performance. Blaut cleared several bars early and ran in to a bit of trouble with the bar at 1.82m as she needed a third-attempt clearance to remain in the competition. But, with the local product clearing on the third attempt, she next cleared 1.85m on her second attempt to tie the school record held by Renee Hein (2007). With the title secured, she went after 1.88m and cleared on her second attempt to bring about a bevy of accolades, including the UC record, the stadium record, the conference meet record and moved herself into a tie for the national lead. Blaut attempted to clear 1.90m three times, but was unsuccessful in her tries. Blaut's title gives her a sweep of the 2018 year after she won the indoor crown in February after winning last year's outdoor title with a then-meet record mark of 1.77m.

// BIENENFELD ADDS RUNNER-UP
Two nights after securing the men's program's first 10,000m title, German transfer Aaron Bienenfeld was back on the track Sunday and closed out an impressive debut season as he took runner-up honors in the 5,000m, covering the 12.5 laps in 14:47.90. With his finish, Bienenfeld collected eight more team points, giving him 18 for the weekend (29-percent of the team's points). In the same event, teammate Nick Grismer ran a tactical race and finished sixth overall in 15:01.11 to collect three-points for the team with his finish.

// ANTON'S STRONG DOUBLE
To say Alexis Anton put together a great weekend on the track for the Bearcats might be an understatement. The senior, who recently graduated from UC, raced in the 1,500m/800m double Sunday and scored seven team points, the most for the women's distance program in the AAC era. Anton opened the day by running 4:29.60 in the 1,500m run to not only place fourth overall in the event, but also break the school record. The only women in UC history to run under 4:30 in the event, Anton lowered the standard in the event by 1.58 seconds after taking down Angie Kist's mark of 4:31.18 from 2002 (16 years ago). Then, less than two hours later and battling the heat, Anton came back for the 800m run and posted another PR, this time running 2:10.00 to finish seventh overall with the #3 time in UC history.

// ROOKIES SHINING
The men had five true freshman score points in the meet today with Connor Duricky leading the charge as the runner-up in the 110m hurdles as he ran 14.17 to grab eight points for the men. In the same race, Isaiah McCall finished sixth overall in 14.54, a time that is a PR and scored three points for the men. Two days after rookie Ryan Guenthner finished sixth in the 10,000m for the distance team, Matt Stump race in the final of the 1,500m run and finished eighth overall in 4:06.02 to score one point. Moving to the field events, Albert Kalala took seventh in the high jump with a best of 2.03m (6-08.00) for two points while Sam Meece placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 16.59m (54-05.25) to score one point. That finish marked the third time this meet Meece scored in this meet. Redshirt freshman Nicholas Lauria also scored as he took eighth in the pole vault with a PR clearance of 4.85m (15-11.00) to add one point for the team.

// ALL-CONFERENCE
On the women's side, six Bearcats earned all-conference accolades, led by Haisha Bisiolu, who earned all-conference honors in two events as she was third in the 400m dash (54.28) and helped the 4x100m relay to a runner-up finish (44.66) with Tiona Lattimore, Kellsa Mbah and Juliana Puopolo joining her on the relay squad, which posted the fourth-fastest time in UC history. The final all-conference honoree as she placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.68m (41-07.25).
