CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced Wednesday the top 25 team grade point averages (GPA) nationally during the 2017-18 academic year with University of Cincinnati women's golf checking in at No. 7 among NCAA Division I schools with a 3.751 cumulative GPA.
As a team, the Bearcats posted a department-high 3.751 cumulative GPA – the second year in a row they recorded UC's top mark. Contributing to this accomplishment, the UC trio of Alyssa Burritt (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), Anika Hitt (Mequon, Wis./Homestead), and Elizabeth Keeling (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut) were each recognized as WGCA All-American Scholars last week with 3.814, 3.830, and 3.759 GPAs, respectively. Last month, each member of the team was picked for the 2017-18 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. UC had a conference-best 286 selections.
"This team continues to amaze me," said head coach Janet Carl. "I have so much respect for them and what they accomplish academically given the amount of class time they miss due to travel and competition. We have the best academic support department in the country and it shows when the team accomplishes something as outstanding as this. This is another opportunity to represent our University as the Class of the League."
The Bearcats were one of two AAC teams to make the WGCA Top 25 with East Carolina coming in at No. 4 with a 3.806 GPA. Omaha topped the overall D-I list with a 3.949.
This honor marks the second time in as many years UC has ranked among the top 10 nationally after coming in at No. 9 for 2016-17.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.
