MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After near a week off from competition, University of Cincinnati men's soccer will visit the West Virginia Mountaineers Tuesday for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

UC (1-5) fell, 3-1, to the visiting Western Michigan Broncos at Gettler Stadium on Sept. 12. Redshirt junior Austin Smythe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day/Radford) scored his first goal of the season in the loss – a strike in the 29th minute. WMU's Kosti Moni scored a pair of goals on the night – the opening goal of the match in the seventh minute and an insurance score in the 31st minute. Ben Thornton added a score during the 21st minute. The Bearcats outshot the Broncos 13-10 for the game – including eight in the second half -- and were even with four shots on goal. Redshirt junior Ryan Melink (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) led the way for UC with three shots, while Smythe, sophomore Darryn Commissiong (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic), and junior Donovan Segree (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College/Daytona State College) each had two. The home team totaled six corner kicks. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Pearce Skinner (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) notched one save in the match. In total, six yellow cards were issued between both teams.

WVU (3-3) snapped a two-game losing streak on Sept. 15 with a 3-1 home victory over Saint Francis (Pa.). Rushawn Larmond scored WVU's first and third goals. Joey Piatczyc scored the game winner on a penalty kick. On the season, Larmond and Ethan Shim lead the Mountaineers with three goals. Piatczyc and Pascal Derwaritsch each have tallied two scores. Goalkeeper Steven Tekesky has 26 saves and one shutout in 2018. Earlier in the season, WVU picked up wins over Charleston and American. Included in their three setbacks, the Mountaineers fell 1-0 at both UCF and Maryland. In the preseason, WVU was picked to finish third in the six-team Mid-American Conference (MAC).

Sophomore newcomer Moritz Schaller (Austria/Vienna University) was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 3 after leading the Bearcats to their first win of the season on Aug. 31 – a 2-0 win at Cleveland State. In the victory, he scored the game winner in the seventh minute. Schaller totaled two shots in his first-career start.

Head coach Hylton Dayes enters his 18th season at the helm of the program in 2018. The dean of UC's varsity coaches and the all-time winningest coach in Bearcats men's soccer history, Dayes has won 132 matches in Clifton, reaching the NCAA Tournament twice (2003 & 2006). In 28 seasons as a collegiate head coach, including time as both the men's and women's head coach at Wright State, Dayes is 230-234-62.

The American Athletic Conference announced on Aug. 14 its preseason all-conference team with Smythe one of 13 players selected to the squad. UC has now had a player named to the preseason all-conference team in consecutive years after Patrick Nielsen was a unanimous pick in 2017, while also being tabbed preseason Defensive Player of the Year. In the preseason conference poll, the Bearcats were picked to finish seventh in the eight-team league.
