CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati cross country teams competed in the Bradley Pink Classic Friday afternoon in Peoria, Ill., battling a large group of runners along with snow flurries and muddy conditions as the day progressed. In the end, both teams posted solid marks once again with Aaron Bienenfeld and Andrew Schille placing fourth and sixth, respectively, for the men while all eight women that finished their race posted personal best times on the day.
// QUICK NOTES
• Bienenfeld posted his third Top 10 finish in as many races this year and matched his season-best finish of fourth place that he ran at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., earlier this year
• Schille added his second Top 10 finish and third Top 15 showing of the year after he won the season-opening Queen City Invitational and placed 12th at the Greater Louisville Classic
• All eight women that finished posted PRs at the 6,000m distance with three posting improved times and five posting their first 6,000m time as collegiate runners
• Sydney Hess led the women's improved times as she took 1:15.9 off her previous best while Sammy Hentz lowered her time by 33.8 and Hannah Markel, the team's top finisher, by 22.8
• The women's Top 5 finishers crossed the line within 33.4 seconds of one another
// TEAM STANDINGS
The men scored 386 points to place 11th overall while the women scored 630 points to place 26th. In the men's standings, host Bradley won the Red Race title with 63 points while NCAA Division II #2-ranked Grand Valley State was the runner-up with 83 points. The men's Top 5 was rounded out by Illinois (166), St. Louis (227) and Indiana (236). On the women's side, #15 Iowa State captured the team title with 51 points and were followed by South Dakota (138), Illinois (142), NCAA Division II #3-ranked GVSU (149) and Toledo (179).
// MEN'S 8,000m RACE
Bienenfeld and Schille proved to be a formidable duo up front as they both placed in the Top 6, giving the Bearcats a pair of Top 10 finishers in the same race for the first time this season. Bienenfeld crossed the line in 24:36.7 to finish fourth overall while Schille was just behind him in sixth after running 24:39.3 over 8,000m.
The Bearcats then saw Michael Vitucci and Ryan Guenthner finish closely to one another with Vitucci placing 110th overall in 26:10.1 and Guenthner just 0.6 seconds behind in 112th place (26:10.7). The team's fifth and final scorer was freshman Keifer Mosmeier, who was 169th overall in 26:26.7. Four other Bearcats raced on the day for the men, including Steven Zombory (26:51.8) and Jack Cordonnier (27:18.0), who rounded out the team's Top 7 racers in 194th and 230th, respectively. Jake Barnes was 248th overall (27:52.7).
// WOMEN'S 6,000m RACE
The women's Top 5 finished in a tight grouping once again, this time finishing within 33.4 seconds of one another. Markel led the way as she ran 22:16.1 to finish 105th overall and lower her personal-best time by 22.8 seconds. She was followed across the line by Katrina Patterson, who was 136th overall in 22:30.1 in her first collegiate 6,000m race. The team's Top 5 was rounded in quick succession as Hentz (22:46.7), Ellee Bullock (22:48.6) and Maggie Breitenstein (22:49.5) finished 160th, 163rd and 164th, respectively. While it was the first 6,000m runs for Bullock and Breitenstein, it was not for Hentz, who lowered her previous PR by 33.8 seconds.
The Top 7 was rounded out by Hess and Madalyn O'Dea, who finished 251st in 23:53.0 and 267th in 24:22.0, respectively. For Hess, her time was a 1:15.9 improvement over her previous PR. Janey McManus also raced on the day as she took part in the co-ed open race, finishing 87th overall in the women's 6,000m run in 24:47.3.

The championship season will be upon the Bearcats next time out as they will travel to New Orleans, La., for the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championships Thursday, October 25. The women's 6,000m race will lead things off at 10 a.m. CT (11 a.m. ET) with the men's 8,000m run following at 10:50 a.m. CT (11:50 a.m. ET). Both races will be broadcast live on the American Digital Network.
