LEXINGTON, KY. - A pair of University of Cincinnati track and field student-athletes grabbed second-place finishes on the opening day of competition at the two-day Jim Green Invitational at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Kentucky.

Despite a limited number of events Friday, high jumper Loretta Blaut and weight thrower Sam Meece both brought home runner-up finishes in their disciplines.

Blaut, who is tied for the top indoor clearance in the nation (1.82m), cleared 1.81m and placed second in the event, behind former NCAA Champion Erika Kinsey (1.91m) who was competing unattached. Blaut cleared 1.71m on her first attempt and needed a second-attempt clearance at both 1.76m and 1.81m before missing three times at 1.84m. Blaut led three UC high jumpers in the Top-15 with Katie Kravitsky (t-9) and Angelic Lightfoot (t-14) also earning solid finishes.

The distance medley relay squad of Leah Maschino, Rylee Penn, Maddie O'Dea and Sam Mikula finished in 12:11.58 and placed fifth. The DMR is contested during the indoor season and consists of four segments, comprising 1200m, 400m, 800m and 1600m.

The women's weight throw was not contested due to reported equipment issues.

Sam Meece earned a second-place finish in the men's weight throw, heaving a toss of 18.17m on his first effort of the meet. He fouled on his second attempt and threw 17.60m on the third. Meece was one of five UC student-athletes in the Top-12 Friday. Danny Jones placed eighth while competing unattached, Chris Province was ninth, Aaron Deaton 10th and Marcus Abraham took 12th.

Albert Kalala had a Top-10 finish in the high jump, earning eight place with a best leap of 2.00m.

The men's DMR quartet of Matt Stump, Michael Vitucci, Jase Headings and Jack Cordonnier clocked a combined time of 10:16.88 and placed fourth.

The bulk of the meet program takes place Saturday on the University of Kentucky campus. Admission is free. Parking will be available in the Green Lot adjacent to Nutter Field House and Kroger Field.
