BOCA RATON, Fla. – University of Cincinnati baseball took an early lead on Sunday at FAU but could not hang on as it fell by a final score of 5-3.
The Bearcats were inches away from victory in every game of the weekend as the Owls scored all of their runs on two outs.

• UC starts the season at 0-3 while FAU sits at 3-0
• Joey Wiemer had another good day with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with two walks
• Jeremy Johnson also went 2-for-3 with a homerun, walk, run score, RBI and stolen base. Playing center field, he also had a double-play by catching a fly ball and throwing out a runner trying to advance to second
• Jace Mercer went 1-for-3 with two RBI on a homerun and two walks
• On the mound, Garrett Schoenle went 4.0 innings in the start with no runs, two hits, three walks and a strikeout

• After Eric Santiago led off with a single, Mercer joined the power parade with a two-run homerun to left field to lift UC to a 3-0 lead

• FAU got on the board with a single, fielder's choice and two-run homerun to right field. Down by one, the Owls would take the lead on a walk, triple and base hit
Bottom of the 6th
• A single, sacrifice bunt and a RBI base hit increased FAU's lead to two, 5-3
