PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Cincinnati women's basketball junior guard Florence Sifa (Bujumbura, Burundi/Jacksonville College) has been picked for the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday.
Sifa earned the honor after averaging 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game as the Bearcats won both of their contests last week. In the victories, the junior also shot 50 percent from the field 87.5 percent from the free-throw line.
In a 68-57 win Saturday at ECU, the guard led the way for UC with 17 points, to go along with five rebounds. Previously, during a 74-47 home victory Wednesday vs. Tulsa, she stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, a game-high-tying seven rebounds, and a season-best six steals.
On the season, the junior college transfer is averaging 8.1 points and 3.1 rebounds each outing. In conference play, Sifa is tallying 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds. Moreover, over her last five games, she averaged 13.6 points and 5.4 rebounds as the Red & Black went 4-1.
Entering Monday, she is ninth in the AAC in field-goal percentage at 48.1 percent.
Monday's weekly conference distinction is the first of the newcomer's career. A Bearcats player has been honored by the AAC nine weeks this season.
