CINCINNATI – It was a wild night at Marge Schott Stadium on Saturday, but at the end, University of Cincinnati baseball left with an 11-9 victory over Wichita State and a chance for the series sweep on Sunday.
After the game was delayed an hour and 45 minutes due to rain, the teams combined for 16 runs in the first two frames. After that, the bullpens took over and did a tremendous job getting the game back on pace the rest of the way.

• UC moves to 21-22 overall and 10-7 in conference action
• Wichita State drops to 20-22 and 5-9
• Evan Shawver went 1.1 innings in the start before Clayton Colvin followed in relief. He earned the win after 3.2 innings with two earned runs, four hits, one walk and a career-high seven strikeouts
• A.J. Kullman entered next in a one-run game and got a double play on his first pitch. He went 3.0 innings with no runs and two hits
• Korren Thompson earned his seventh save with one hit and one strikeout in the ninth
• Joey Wiemer and Eric Santiago both went 3-for-5 in the contest. Santiago had a double with two runs and a RBI. Wiemer had two RBI
• A.J. Bumpass led the team with three RBI on a homerun and finished 2-for-4 at the plate

• An unearned run scored in the first as an error and three walks got the scoring started
Bottom of the 1st
• A four-run first gave the Bearcats an early edge. It started with a Santiago single before a fielder's choice by Joey Bellini, a wild pitch and a walk to Wyatt Stapp. Wiemer then picked up his first RBI on a base hit. Bumpass smacked a pitch over the left field wall to clear the bases during the next at-bat
Top of the 2nd
• The Shockers joined the scoring frenzy with a six-run second to lead 7-4. Two walks and a homerun began their scoring spree. A hit batter, bunt single and double scored the other runs of the inning
Bottom of the 2nd
• UC answered with five tallies to get ahead 9-7. Mitch Holding walked, Jeremy Johnson was hit by a pitch and Santiago singled in the first tally. A wild pitch allowed Johnson to score. Once Bellini walked, Stapp doubled home Santiago. Wiemer stayed hot with a single to score another. After Bumpass walked to load the bases, Griffin Merritt hit a sacrifice fly to right field
Bottom of the 3rd
• Santiago scored on a passed ball in the next inning after he doubled to left center, making it a 10-7 game
Top of the 5th
• The scoring subsided until a solo homerun by Wichita State added a run back
Top of the 6th
• Another solo shot to lead off the sixth made it a one-run game
Bottom of the 6th
• The Bearcats quickly responded with a Bellini double and Wiemer single to put the final score at 11-9

• The series concludes on Sunday with first pitch at noon
• UC has no midweek baseball next week due to finals, but action will be back at Marge Schott Stadium next weekend when UC hosts nationally-ranked ECU
